chock

noun, nautical, a wooden or metal fitting on a ship’s deck or railing through which a line may be guided (“chock, n.1.” OED)

“The dock people, when you’re going into the lock, you hand in the line. You just hand it to him, and then he’s got it feeding it out through the chock. They call them chocks where you tie your boat up to.”
