Words of Wolfe Island is a collection of over 900 words and phrases selected from interviews with residents of Wolfe Island, Ontario. The interviews were conducted by the Strathy Language Unit at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario, in cooperation with the Wolfe Island Historical Society, as part of a larger project to record stories of Island life for the study of language and history. These interviews now comprise the Wolfe Island English Corpus (WIEC).
Words of Wolfe Island, this website, is a side project of WIEC intended to be a fun and accessible way to enjoy some of the interesting words and phrases from the interviews, along with illustrative quotes. Please note that all names in the entries, unless a matter of historical record, are pseudonyms.
